I've taken on a job to clear a hilly lot that's overgrown with grass standing between 6 to 10 feet tall. It hasn't been maintained for a while, and I'm unsure about how to handle all this grass. Is it okay to just leave the clippings to decompose as mulch, or should we consider using tarps to dump some of it instead?

I’d recommend using a brush hog to mulch down the whole area. This way, the grass can break down and enrich the soil for the next crop, but you might end up with a lot of weed seeds left behind too. It's a trade-off!
If you don’t have a brush hog, using a weed eater could be your best bet! Just be mindful that it might take more time with a few guys working. But since it's just grass, it might work after all! You could decide later whether to mulch or tarp some of it afterwards based on how much you end up with.

Totally agree! Just make sure to have a separate mulcher if possible, so one person can focus on the larger clumps remaining from the brush hog. It speeds up the process!
