Best Way to Drain Dehumidifier Water in My Basement?

Asked By CoolCat123 On

I have two dehumidifiers down in my basement, but I'm struggling with how to drain the water they collect. My sump pump is sealed, which is a concern regarding radon escape. Though my dehumidifiers have pumps, they only drain the bucket halfway, which isn't ideal. I'm considering installing a utility sink to dump the water into, allowing it to slowly drain via gravity into the sump cover. However, I'm open to suggestions for better solutions to handle this overflow. Any ideas?

If your dehumidifiers are close to the sump basin, try draining them directly there. You can actually drill a hole in the sump cover and put a rubber grommet in it, which will let you connect your dehumidifier's drain line right to it. This is usually a pretty simple fix and works well!

You might want to think about using your furnace condensate pump if you have one. That way, you can easily drain the water from the dehumidifiers into it. Alternatively, drilling into the sump cover and sealing it around the hose could also work, as long as you take precautions to keep radon from leaking.

That's a solid idea! Just make sure the connection is airtight to avoid any issues.
