Best Way to Drill Through Stucco for Ethernet Cable?

Asked By SunnyGuitar92 On

I'm looking to drill through stucco from the outside of my house to run an Ethernet cable. I've read that I'll need a hammer drill, which I plan to rent from Home Depot. I'm also curious if I need to seal the hole to protect against the weather and what materials I might need for that. Additionally, when I eventually move out, how easy or costly is it to repair the hole? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I’ve actually done this with just a regular drill and a long masonry bit, and it was super simple! Just take it slow and make sure you don’t let anything overheat. Also, double-check for any pipes or electrical lines behind the stucco before you drill. I used outdoor caulk to seal the hole afterward. If you're renting, it’s usually better to leave it as is when you move out, but if you need to cover it up, a bit of spray foam and some touch-up paint can do the trick.

Thanks for the advice! I have a stud finder, but I'm not confident it will show me exactly what's behind the wall. If I drill the hole for the Ethernet cable, do I just line it up on the inside to run the wire correctly?
