I'm getting a 77-inch LG G5 this weekend, and it's pretty hefty at 75 lbs. The wall mount that came with it is designed for 16-inch spacing, which matches my studs, but my TV will be off-center if I use it as is. I know I could attach some 3/4 inch plywood either on the surface of the drywall or cut out the drywall for a flush mount. However, the other side of the wall is a storage room, so I have access to the studs from behind. Is there an easier and still secure method to mount the TV? Could I install wood blocks between the studs from behind and attach the mount to those? Would that provide enough support?

Just a heads up, mounting this TV can be tricky. LG typically uses a service called Handy for installations, but their contractors might refuse to attach the mount unless it’s on an actual stud. Also, you need a media box installed in the wall at the right spot behind the TV – it's not clearly marked in the instructions or box. Make sure there’s no trim on the box, even a little can mess with how the TV mounts. I had to buy a smaller box because of my stud spacing, so get a few ready in advance just in case. Good luck with your setup!
Using wood blocks behind the wall, secured on either side of the studs, would definitely work to mount your TV. Just make sure to use good quality wood and attach them securely to the studs. It's a solid way to maintain the low profile you're aiming for! If you're considering 2x6s for the wood blocks, those should be more than enough support. And yes, you can directly mount into those with lag bolts to ensure it's secure!
Awesome! This helps me keep it flush with the wall. Thanks!

This is the way to go!
