I'm looking to re-establish the primary bevel on some plane blades, but my coarse diamond stone and honing guide are taking forever. I'm considering getting a bench grinder with a tool rest for this. I found a water-cooled sharpening system, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or if I should stick to a standard bench grinder. Has anyone used a similar system, and is it effective for this kind of work?

If you're only going to re-profile bevels occasionally, that water-cooled system might just take up space. A standard bench grinder is more versatile and generally better for your workshop. There are even quicker methods; for instance, a flat board with 80 grit sandpaper and a honing guide can work fine too. It’s quicker and doesn’t occupy permanent bench space!

I usually stick to 80 grit for quick reshaping! It's efficient and keeps my workout game strong.
