Hey everyone! I need some advice on running an ethernet cable from my basement to my carpeted living room. Since my setup is in the basement and there's no outlet option available, I'm considering just drilling a hole through the floor directly into the living room. If I go this route, how should I handle the carpet so it doesn't get damaged? Any tips or alternatives would be appreciated!

If you can, try drilling a hole up through the bottom plate of a wall in the living room instead. This way, you can install a wall outlet which would look much cleaner. Plus, it’s usually easier to manage the cable that way!
I tackled this by removing the trim in my living room and sneaking the ethernet cable up through the edge of the floor. There was enough space below the drywall to hide the cable. I drilled a small hole to run it into the wall cavity and then installed a wall jack where I needed it. If you're not comfortable with drilling or cutting a whole box, this could be a good option!
It depends if it's an interior or exterior wall! For an interior wall, drill through the bottom plate from the basement and set up a low voltage box. That way, you'll have a secure point to run your ethernet cable to.

Great idea! This method seems less invasive than making a visible hole in the wall.
