Best Way to Secure a Softball Pole in Concrete?

Asked By SoftballD4d21 On

Hey everyone! My daughter has a softball swing-away set that needs a solid pole for setup. I was thinking of using a 5-gallon bucket filled with concrete to hold the pole, making it easier to move around instead of permanently placing it in the ground. Does anyone have tips or advice on how to do this effectively? Thanks!

Filling a 5-gallon bucket with concrete sounds good, but you should know it’ll weigh about 100-150 lbs! That's gonna be pretty heavy to move. You might also want to think about using an earth anchor instead, which can help secure the pole without all that weight. Just a thought!

Yeah, if you're worried about weight, you could mix up a 40lb concrete bag with some water instead. That way, you won’t have to deal with as much weight when moving it!

If you go with the bucket, just make sure it's on a flat surface and maybe brace it against the ground or with some supports. Stick the pole in the bucket, pour in the mixed concrete, and make sure it's leveled before it sets. That should hold it together well! Oh, and there's also hit-away systems available for about $100 if that's an option for you.

Here's an idea: instead of a bucket, consider an old tire filled with concrete. It could work great for keeping everything stable, plus it’s a classic tetherball setup!
