Best Way to Ventilate While Painting: Open Windows or Dehumidifier?

Asked By SunnySky34 On

I'm a newbie at painting and I'm working on my bedroom. I want to minimize VOCs (volatile organic compounds) as much as possible for a safer environment for whoever will be living there. What's better for ventilation while the paint dries: keeping the windows open even if it's humid outside, or closing the windows and using a dehumidifier? Any tips or techniques would be much appreciated!

Using water-based paints is a great start since they generally have lower VOCs. Aim to paint when humidity is low and temperatures are optimal. If you can, keep the windows open to allow for airflow while painting. It helps the paint dry better, but I totally get how humidity can be a tricky factor. Maybe try balancing both by painting on a day with lower humidity if possible?

Yeah, I've gone that route too! If the humidity's unavoidable, I’d say maybe keep the windows open and run the dehumidifier at the same time. Just make sure it’s not overworked!
