Best Ways to Fill Large Cracks in My Asphalt Driveway?

I have a large asphalt driveway that's 12 feet wide and about a quarter-mile long, totaling around 21,000 square feet. It's in need of sealing, but there are also some significant cracks that require filling. The previous owners used water-based sealers every five years and handled crack maintenance with a mix of patching methods. I can't afford to completely tear it out and re-pave it right now, so I'm considering a DIY sealing approach. I'm wondering if roofing asphalt mixed with construction sand would work for filling 1/2" to 1" wide cracks before I seal the driveway. What do you all suggest?
