Best Ways to Get Wetter Ready-Mix Concrete for a Tight Space?

Asked By CuriousCoder92 On

I'm looking for a ready-mix concrete that has a wetter consistency to help it flow better into a tight space under a slab that I'm lifting. I've noticed that Quickrete tends to look pretty dry when ready to pour, and they've mentioned not to add more water than what's specified. Any tips or recommendations for getting a better mix?

If you're doing the mixing yourself, you might want to consider adding a plasticiser admixture. It helps make the concrete more workable without compromising the overall quality of the mix. It's a great way to achieve that flow you need!

Thanks for the tip! I am going DIY. I've seen some videos where the mix has a lot of "flex," but it doesn't seem much wetter—am I missing something?

What about topping it off with self-leveling concrete? It might be a bit pricey, but for such a small slab, it's worth it for the ease of use.

I've seen some cases where mortar was pumped into the gaps and leveled right to the slab's base before laying the concrete on top. That could also work well if you're dealing with a tight space.
