Best Ways to Hide Window Wells with Raised Flower Beds?

I've got these three window wells in front of my house, and the steel covers stick up about 10 inches from the ground, which really takes away from the curb appeal. I'm considering building a three-sided raised flower bed around them, using the house as the fourth side. I'd fill it with dirt and potting soil, but I'm not sure if this is a smart move or if there are better options. What should I keep in mind for this project?

I really wouldn’t recommend filling the window wells with dirt! They serve a crucial purpose for drainage and preventing water build-up. Instead, consider using planters to hide the view or maybe even painting the window well covers to blend them in better with your house. It’ll keep everything functional while sprucing up the curb appeal!

Yeah, I agree! A little paint can go a long way. Plus, planters will allow for some nice flowers without risking water issues.

Using timber or decorative edging around the window wells is a neat idea! It’ll help visually separate the flower bed from the pavement or grass, making everything look really intentional. You can also add some plants around the edges for extra color without obstructing the window wells. Just remember to keep watering in check!

You should definitely avoid blocking those window wells, especially if they’re legal egress windows. Maybe try planting some perennials around them instead? Something low like Liriope can give you that ground cover without blocking sunlight, plus it looks nice!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into Liriope; it could be a lovely addition!
