Best Ways to Install a Heavy Gardena Retractable Hose Reel on a Brick Wall

Hey there! I'm trying to figure out the best way to install a heavy Gardena Retractable Hose Reel onto a brick wall in my backyard. The reel is quite heavy, weighing about 35 lbs without water and over 50 lbs when filled. My concern is that the brick wall isn't solid, and I'm not certain if it's veneer or something else entirely. If anyone from Houston has experience or advice, I'd love to hear it!

I've included a couple of pictures of the brick wall to give you a better idea of what I'm working with. I've heard that the anchors included with the hose reel kit have a tendency to pull off the wall due to the weight, so I'm looking for stronger anchoring solutions to make sure my hose reel stays secure. I can't dig a hole and use concrete in the area because there are powerlines and utility cables running through, plus I'm not strong enough to handle all that digging and concrete work. Any advice on what kind of anchors or hardware would work best for this situation would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve had pretty good luck with strong wall plugs made for hollow walls. These can hold a heavy load without risking damage to the structure. Just be careful to choose the right size for the weight you’re dealing with. And definitely get some advice at your local hardware store—they can help you find the best solution.

Yeah, definitely consult with staff at the store. They might have products specifically meant for your type of wall!

Hey! For a heavy hose reel on a non-solid brick wall, I'd recommend using masonry screws or toggle bolts specifically designed for brick. They offer a lot more support than the standard anchors that come with these kits. You'll want to drill a hole just slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws you're using to get a tight fit. Make sure to use a hammer drill if possible to get through that brick! Good luck!

Agreed! Also, make sure to clean out the hole after drilling to ensure the anchors fit snugly. It makes a big difference!
