Best Ways to Insulate a Garage Door for Texas Heat?

Hey folks! I'm trying to figure out the best way to insulate my garage door since it's getting super hot here in North Texas. I'm looking for a cost-effective solution for my two-car garage. I've done some research:

- **Batting**: I found that R-19 batting seems to be the most efficient choice, but it's also the priciest. It might need my spring adjusted or replaced, which could cost me around $200. I'm not comfortable messing with the springs myself.
- **Foam Board**: This option isn't as effective as batting but is more affordable. I can get about four 4'x8' sheets for around $90. Still, it might need spring adjustments, too.
- **Radiant Barrier**: This is the least efficient and a bit pricier than foam board, but it won't need any spring adjustment.

My garage can get to 110 degrees, so I'm trying to take it step by step. I was thinking of starting with a radiant barrier and then maybe adding foam board later on. Am I missing any options? What do you all think?

I just insulated my garage door using one of those 1.25" foam kits from Lowe's. My garage was completely uninsulated before, and that kit brought my temps down from around 91°F to 87°F, which is a nice improvement! I didn't adjust my springs, and it hasn't caused any issues since I rarely open the door. If you're looking for a quick and inexpensive fix, I'd totally recommend it! I'm also planning to run electricity to set up the ceiling insulation next, but for now, this kit is doing the trick. Oh, and I'm going to try using a dual-hose portable AC unit through the existing vent holes, which should help even more!

That's awesome to hear! I was actually hesitant about those kits because of the price, but that reduction is impressive! I'm also considering a box fan to help circulate air better. I just got a 12,000 BTU portable AC, so I'm trying to figure out the best setup to keep my garage cool.
