I need some advice on how to insulate my garage effectively without breaking the bank. I live in Arizona where temperatures can soar to 115°F in the summer, and I'm worried about the heat damage to the chemicals and materials stored there. My house is over 30 years old with thin exterior walls that don't seem to hold up well under heat. I'm somewhat handy with power tools and I already have a DIY exhaust fan installed for airflow. The sun beats down on one side of the garage after 2 pm, making things even worse. What are some safe and budget-friendly ways to insulate my garage?

Have you checked if your garage has drywall? If it does, that’s a good start! You can DIY garage door insulation with premade kits, or find tutorials on YouTube—it’s pretty straightforward! Make sure to seal any cracks or seams too; it can really help with heat retention and keeping the garage cooler.
When I moved in, the previous owner had sprayed self-adhering cellulose insulation in the whole garage. It was a bit of a mess at first, but it does help keep the temps down. If you’re looking for something common around here in AZ, that could be a solid option!
I've seen that around! It seems like a great idea, especially if it’s what I think it is. I’m open to giving that a go!
Standard fiberglass insulation can be effective, but real improvements often come from adding active cooling solutions. Still, it’s a good idea to seal cracks along your walls and doors too; every little bit helps. Try insulating the garage door as a first step!
Not exactly the news I was hoping for, but I guess I have to start somewhere! Insulating the door it is!
Yeah, it has drywall, but the wall with the cabinets is also the hottest. Guess I’ll look into insulating the garage door instead!
