I'm living on the first floor of an apartment, and every summer I have a serious fly situation right outside my front door. I've tried spraying peppermint oil on the door frame, but it doesn't last very long. I'm looking for suggestions on effective ways to keep these tiny flies away—any ideas?

You might want to try using citronella or lavender—flies don’t like those scents. Also, consider planting some herbs that repel flies around the entrance; they can be a natural deterrent. Might be time to switch up your fly-repelling game!
Flies hate wind, so setting up a box fan nearby can really help. It keeps the air moving and makes it harder for them to hover around. It's a simple trick but can be quite effective!
A fly trap can be really effective! You can make a simple one by cutting the top off a plastic bottle and flipping it upside down. Put some water and old meat inside, and place it away from your door. The smell will lure the flies in, and they won’t be able to escape. Just be ready for some odor!
Just a heads up, that might attract more flies first before it works!
