Best Ways to Keep Mice Out of My Apartment?

Asked By CuriousCat45 On

Hey everyone, I've been having a tough time with a mouse trying to break into my apartment. I can hear it clawing and chewing at the expanding foam that the building manager put in, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I've also found steel wool placed in my baseboard, but I need some heat-safe options that I can use at the bottom of the baseboard to keep it out for good. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for natural deterrents, I found that mint oil really helps. Just douse the area where you think they're getting in with some strong mint scent. They hate it! Just be careful if you’re sensitive to strong smells.

I ordered some peppermint oil after reading this! Hopefully, it will do the trick.

From my experience with these pesky critters, packing any holes you find with steel wool and then covering it with more expanding foam works wonders. Mice can’t chew through steel wool, so it adds an extra barrier. Just make sure that it’s safe to use near your baseboard before you apply it!

I think that's what the maintenance did last time, but I'm still hearing noises! Is it really okay to use steel wool on baseboards?

You definitely want to be proactive about this! One of the best things you can do is set up some mouse traps. To make it easier, put the traps in small boxes, like those for crackers or cereal. When you catch a mouse, just toss the whole box out so you don’t have to handle it directly. It could save you a lot of headaches!

That’s interesting! I tried traps before but they just avoided them completely. Any tips on where to place them?
