I'm looking for some solid advice on how to securely mount and parallel multiple IRFZ44N MOSFETs. My plan is to connect all the gates using 10-ohm resistors, and I have flyback diodes in place. However, I want to avoid soldering them onto a PCB due to concerns about generating too much heat during the soldering process. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No need to worry too much! I often solder MOSFET tabs to a PCB, and it's pretty common practice. Just use hot air to bring the entire device up to around 300°C, and you'll be fine. It's all about keeping it short and sweet without overheating.

One effective method is to solder the pins of the MOSFETs while bolting the tabs to a heat sink. You really have to overdo it with the soldering iron to damage a TO-220 transistor like the IRFZ44N, so don’t stress too much. Since the drains are connected, you should be good to go with this setup.

GadgetGuru77: Thanks for the tip! I was worried about overheating them, but I guess if I keep my soldering time short, it should be fine.

You seem to be on an interesting project! Have you considered using a single lower RDS(on) FET instead of paralleling several? It might simplify things. Just curious about what you’re planning to do with these MOSFETs—I’d love to hear more about that!
