Best Ways to Remove Packing Tape Residue from Aluminium Without Damaging It?

Asked By CuriousCat97 On

I recently used packing tape to protect my aluminium window frames while applying a water-repellent treatment. After removing the tape, I found some sticky residue left behind. The frames have hardened silicone around the edges as a sealant, so I need a solution that can remove the glue without damaging the silicone or the aluminium finish. I've heard everything from rubbing alcohol to WD-40 and acetone, but I'm concerned about ruining the silicone or leaving greasy marks. Can anyone share some effective methods that you've tried?

Goo Gone is a solid choice for this! They have different forms like sprays and roll-ons, so you can pick whichever fits your needs. It’s specifically designed to tackle sticky stuff without causing damage.

Have you tried using hand sanitizer? It usually works well for getting rid of sticky residue. Just rub it on the area and see if that does the trick. Oh, and definitely avoid acetone; it can mess up some silicones.
