Best Ways to Soundproof a Shared Brick Wall?

I'm dealing with a situation where there's just a single brick wall between my apartment and my neighbor's, and it's creating a lot of noise issues. I can hear everything on their side, and I'm really hoping to minimize the sound coming through while considering the limited space in my small room. I want to install some sound insulation myself since I'm reasonably handy, but I'm looking for solutions that won't take up too much room. What materials or methods would you recommend for effective soundproofing?

To really reduce sound, consider adding a new wall in front of the existing one with some insulation between. You can create a small gap between the two walls and fill it with insulation, then seal everything with caulk to prevent noise from sneaking through. It only takes up about 2 inches of space and can be very effective! Don’t forget to apply something like green glue between the studs before adding drywall for extra soundproofing.

That sounds like a more intensive project, but worth it for better soundproofing. I like the idea of sealing every gap!

For soundproofing a shared brick wall, you might want to look into using products like "SoundStop" boards or "Sound Abate" rubber sheets. They’re designed specifically for sound reduction, though I haven’t personally tried them. There’s a video that reviews several options and explains the theory behind sound reduction that could be really helpful for you. Check it out!

Those boards seem like a solid option! I wonder if they would really make a noticeable difference compared to other solutions.

If you're looking for something less permanent, you could try hanging some comforters on the wall. It won’t completely soundproof the place, but it'll help dampen the noise a bit without losing much space.

That's a quick fix I hadn't thought of! I might give that a try while I figure out a more permanent solution.
