I'm trying to minimize sound in my apartment and deal with some water damage issues. I plan to weatherstrip my doors and windows and I'm considering a few different door sweeps. Here are my options: a Silicon Door Guard, a Door Bottom Sealing Foam Strip, and a Door Draft Stopper with a brush. However, I'm worried they won't fully solve my problem since there's a hole in the wall my landlord just covered with tape. I'm thinking about asking him to remove the tape, but what's the best way to seal that hole? I want to use bricks, caulking, and some foam bricks to patch it up. Also, regarding the water damage I have, what's a temporary fix that can last for 1-2 years?

For water damage, try using a waterproof sealant on the affected area. You could also mix waterproofing paint with your regular paint to help protect it. Just keep in mind it’s a quick fix, so you might need to reevaluate in a year or so!
Look for brands like Thompson's WaterSeal or Drylok. They’re both solid options for keeping water out!
For sealing that hole, you could use a piece of plywood cut to size and then caulk it in. It’s a budget-friendly solution that should help reduce the noise a bit. Just make sure to get a good quality caulk for the best seal!
Thank you for the tip!
I recommend using silicone caulk—it’s pretty durable and can handle small movements without cracking.

That sounds doable! Any specific brands you’d recommend?
