Hey everyone! I'm going home from college soon and I want to bring a pothos clipping with me since I don't have room for the whole plant. I'm looking for advice on how to best preserve the clipping for the journey. I have about a 4-hour bus ride, followed by a 2-hour wait at the airport, and then a 3-hour flight. Any tips on how to ensure it survives and can be replanted once I get home? Thanks a bunch!

To preserve your pothos clipping, try wrapping it with moist sphagnum moss and then covering it in saran wrap. Put that in a ziplock bag and it should stay good for several days! Just make sure to keep a small opening for air and to moisten it if necessary. It's also a good idea to carry it in a Tupperware container to protect it during your travels.
In my experience, pothos are pretty resilient! I’ve taken them on flights in a water bottle holder of my backpack, and my sister has traveled across the country with unrooted cuttings in a damp paper towel inside a sandwich bag. It works really well!

You can either keep the cutting in water or damp soil depending on your travel plans. If you’re checking luggage, a water-filled container (well-sealed) might be fine. But for carry-on, I recommend putting the cutting in moist soil in a sealed bag to reduce the chances of it being inspected. Pothos are tough and root quickly, so don’t hesitate to take a couple of cuttings for backup!
Great advice! Wrap some moss around an aerial root nub before sealing it up, just don’t let it sit in heat. Keeping it in Tupperware will help to ensure it's safe.
