I'm looking for advice on which whole house water filter to purchase for my two-family home, used by 2-3 people. My tap water is pretty terrible, containing heavy metals and various harmful chemicals. Currently, we rely on Brita filters for drinking water, but I'd like a more comprehensive solution. Any recommendations?

If you're considering a DIY installation, I recommend starting with a water test to know exactly what you're dealing with. A local lab can help with this. That way, you can choose a system tailored to your water quality. Alternatively, I ended up hiring a pro for mine, and it was a great decision. They handle everything, from testing to installation of the system. Really made the process easier!
You might find that a reverse osmosis unit installed under your kitchen sink could be the best option for drinking water. It gets rid of a lot of contaminants and works really well. If you're looking for a whole house unit, just make sure it's rated for your water conditions!

I agree with getting your water tested first! Then you can choose between a whole house filter or just an under-sink option. For under-sink, I’ve heard great things about the One Drop system.
