Best Wood for Applying a Laser Jet Printed Logo on a Tabletop?

Hey everyone! I'm working on a gaming table and planning to put a solid wood top over it. It's about 3.40 ft by 2.13 ft, and I want to apply a logo on it using a laser jet printer. I've watched some tutorials showing how to print a mirrored logo on paper, sand the wood, and use mod podge to transfer the image before finishing it off. My questions are: what's the best type of wood for this method considering it'll be used as a tabletop, and should I stain the wood before or after applying the logo? I've seen info about laser engraving and wood burning, but that's not in my budget, so I'm looking for a solid DIY approach.

For your project, it's best to go with a lighter wood. I’ve done something similar before, and darker stains can obscure the logo since it won’t show up as well against a dark background. Lighter woods like maple or birch work well with this transfer method. They really help the logo pop! Also, I'd recommend staining after applying the logo to ensure it stands out clearly.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely consider lighter woods. Any specific brands or types of maple you’d recommend?
