Best Wood Options for My Kitchen Table?

I'm planning to build a 3x6 table top for a kitchen nook in my new house. I don't have a joiner or planer, so I'm considering going with butcher block. I've found some good options at Floor and Decor, including red oak, hevea, beech island, hickory, maple, white oak, and cherry butcher blocks, with prices ranging from $150 to $350. I'm currently leaning toward white oak because I like how it looks. Is this the best choice for simplicity and quality without the tools I mentioned? I'm pretty confident about making the table legs with the tools I do have. Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful!

White oak butcher block is definitely a solid pick! It's pre-milled, so you won't have to worry about jointing or planing, and its grain looks fantastic, making it ideal for your table. Plus, it's stable, so it should hold up well for kitchen use.

Great to hear! I also want to avoid yellowing the wood too much, so do you have any finish recommendations? Or is oil the way to go?
