Best Woods and Finishes for a Shower Rack?

I'm looking to build a small rack for soaps and shampoos that will be placed in the corner of my shower. I'm not sure what type of wood or finish would stand up to the humidity and moisture. Any recommendations?

I’ve had a similar project in mind! Back in the day, I lined my shower stall with clear redwood. It looked great initially but needed a lot of maintenance due to soap film and moisture buildup. Options like ipe or teak are robust, but without proper upkeep, most woods can get pretty grimy. Good luck with your project!

Teak is a popular choice since it’s used on ship decks and can handle moisture well without additional finish. You could go with untreated teak for a natural look, or apply an outdoor finish every few months for added protection.

If you're open to alternatives, consider using PVC lumber or even fiberglass. It’s super durable and requires less maintenance compared to wood. If you decide to use wood, white oak has decent weather resistance. Just make sure to apply multiple thin coats of a finish like wipe-on poly to keep it protected!

Thanks for the tips! I had not considered PVC before, but it sounds like a solid way to go.
