Can a Clematis Grow Well on a West-Facing Brick Wall in Virginia?

I'm thinking about planting a Clematis and I want to know if it would do well on a west-facing brick wall here in Virginia. I'm a bit worried that it might get too hot for the plant to thrive. Any thoughts?

Just make sure the roots stay cool. I always plant something small in front of mine to keep the soil in shade, and it helps a lot with retention of moisture.

Thank you! I'll be sure to mulch.

Clematis actually loves the sun! They might need some extra water during the hottest months, so just be mindful of that. If you can commit to watering daily from July to September, you should be good.

Gotcha! I'll mulch the area.

Absolutely! I’ve got a Clematis on a west-facing wall and it’s doing great. Just make sure to keep it well-watered, especially in the summer months. They really thrive with the sun!

Good to know, thank you! I'll probably give it a try this weekend 🙂
