I'm living in a home surrounded by dense woods, which makes it feel pretty dark and gloomy all the time. I've been considering installing a solar tube but I'm unsure if it would actually work well in such a shaded environment. Has anyone here tried using a solar tube in a place like mine, and did it help to brighten up the space?

Yeah, a solar tube will definitely bring in some light, but just keep in mind that it might not be as bright as you'd hope—especially in a shaded area. It'll lighten things up a bit, but the amount of light varies with the time of day and the season. Still, any bit of light can help!
You don't necessarily have to cut down a ton of trees to see a difference in light. Even if you're at a latitude of 44 degrees or lower, maybe managing your tree canopy a bit could create a brighter space. Have you thought about that option?
That's true! Opening up the canopy would help, but our trees are pretty tall—75 to 100 feet. I thought solar tubes might save me some money.

Haha, I can just picture those solar tubes sticking up like mini chimneys trying to reach the sun above the trees!
