Can an outdoor ceiling fan really keep wasps away?

As a new homeowner, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with pests. The previous owners of my house mentioned that they left their outdoor ceiling fan running 24/7 over the covered deck to keep wasps away. Does that actually work, or is it just a tall tale? It sounds a bit strange to me!

From my experience, I keep my ceiling fan on all summer, and I've still had wasps around. They love to build nests no matter what! I’d suggest keeping some bug spray handy for when you spot 'em—better safe than sorry!

I agree. While the fan does help with mosquitoes, I’ve noticed wasps still hang around bushes and trees nearby. It might help a bit, but it’s good to check those areas regularly and spray if you see any nests forming. Just my two cents!

Thanks for sharing! I guess it's a bit of a mixed bag then. I'll keep an eye out for nests and have some spray ready just in case!

Right? I do the same, and it’s all about staying vigilant with those nests. It’s better to deal with them before they get established!

I've heard that having a fan can help deter pesky bugs like wasps by creating wind. It's kind of like how a rock can supposedly keep giraffes away, right? Some say it helps, while others swear by other methods too. Just sharing what I've seen!
