Can Drilled Holes in Bathroom Tiles Be Repaired or Should I Replace the Floor?

Hey everyone! I recently had some water damage in my 2nd-floor bathroom, and to help with drying things out, a restoration company drilled some holes in the tiles. Now some contractors are saying that these holes have messed up the moisture barriers underneath, and they recommend replacing the entire bathroom floor to prevent future leaks. However, another contractor mentioned that, since it's just the general bathroom area and not the shower, I could potentially patch them up with mortar and grout instead. I'm looking for opinions and experiences on this situation. What do you all think?

From what you described, if it's just grout, consider using sanded caulking that matches your grout color. You can fill in the holes by forcing the caulking down and then leveling it off. Just be careful, as if those holes somehow compromised your waterproofing, you could have issues down the line. But generally, if it’s not in the shower, this should work fine!

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't sure what’s underneath, but I'm relieved the holes aren't directly in the shower.

If the holes are just in the general bathroom floor, you might not need a full replacement. They might be right about needing a redo if the holes were in the shower area, but since they're outside of it, patching up with mortar and grout could be sufficient. Just make sure to properly seal the patches to avoid any water seeping through later!

That's a good point! As long as it's not punctured the waterproof layer, I think patching it could save you a ton of money.
