Can I Add a Bathtub to My Existing Shower Without Major Renovations?

Hey everyone! I'm considering the possibility of adding a bathtub to my existing shower setup, but I'd like to avoid a huge expense or any extensive demolition work. The shower seems spacious enough, and I noticed the drain is located closer to the edge rather than the center. My house was built in 1905, and while the previous owners remodeled in 2019 to install the shower, I'm not sure if there was ever a bathtub there. If it's feasible, what would be the estimated cost for this project? I live near Pittsburgh, PA, if that helps!

Yeah, adding a tub over an existing shower can be done but expect a decent budget if you want everything to work well together. If the plumbing needs replacing or moving, it can really add to the bill. It’s always best to get a contractor to look at your specific situation. I'd say you could be looking at around $3,000 to $6,000 all in, depending on the choices you make.

Good point! Plumbing is usually the big factor for costs. Definitely get some quotes to see where you stand!

From what I know, it looks like there was a bathtub before the remodel, so you're not starting from scratch. However, adding a tub now could be tricky and might get pricey if you want to keep the shower functional. You'd probably need some plumbing updates, which can push costs up. Depending on what you want to do, I’d estimate about $2,000 to $4,000 if you want it done right without major overhauls. Just a heads up!
