Can I Assemble a Prefab House Myself Without Prior Experience?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on assembling a prefabricated wooden house in Europe. Since wooden houses aren't very common here, but due to the current housing market we decided to go this route. I plan to handle the assembly myself with some help from relatives, while the professionals take care of the foundation, electrical, plumbing, and sewer work.

The plan is for a small 9x9 m bungalow that comes with an assembly manual. I've heard that the workers who do this professionally just follow the manual like I would, but I'm worried I might regret my decision to take it on myself. The quotes I've seen for their work are pretty high for just a few days' effort.

I read somewhere that assembling it is a bit like putting together IKEA furniture, which makes me wonder: is this actually doable for someone with no serious construction background? What tools should I have on hand, and what specific things should I be careful about? My only experience is building small wooden houses for pets, so I'm mainly concerned about getting the insulation, windows, and doors installed correctly. I also prefer to be around during the assembly to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

There's definitely a learning curve to building, so it's smart to have at least one person on your team who knows what they’re doing. You might want to consider hiring a contractor just to oversee certain parts. That way, you can be more hands-on without risking major mistakes!

Good point. I was thinking about hiring a professional to help us. It might be a good compromise I think.

If you've got some carpentry skills, assembling your own prefab house isn't out of reach. YouTube has tons of great resources, especially channels like Larry Haun and Essential Craftsman, which cover the basics really well. These can help guide you through the assembly process and give you a good understanding before you start!
