Hey everyone! We've got a bedroom in the addition of our house that the previous owners had built. The HVAC setup for this room includes one large vent (16x30—incredibly oversized, right?) that doesn't heat or cool the space properly. We're planning to install a mini split unit to fix that. Is it okay to block off this vent? I can't get to where it joins the main duct due to some attic restrictions. What's the best way to seal it off? A friend who's into HVAC suggested stuffing it with insulation and covering it with drywall. What do you think?

I think your friend's suggestion is spot on! Since that's likely a terminal vent, it shouldn't affect the rest of your HVAC system too much. It's a good idea to stuff it with insulation and then drywall over it. Just make sure it's properly sealed to avoid any potential leaks! Also, wow, a 16x30 room is huge—definitely could fit more than one person!

Yeah, exactly! If it's that big, the vent probably couldn’t handle cooling or heating it efficiently anyway. Just make sure to seal it properly so you don’t have airflow issues elsewhere.
