Can I Boost the Audio Output from My LCD Driver Board for iMac Speakers?

Hey everyone! I recently replaced the internals of a 2008 iMac with an LCD driver/inverter to use its display as a regular HDMI monitor. I'm still using the original iMac speakers, which sound pretty good, but the audio output from the driver board isn't very loud even when cranked up to the max. I'm curious if I could build an amplification circuit to place between the LCD driver board and the speakers/crossover without losing the control from the board's volume. The speakers are 24 watts, and I have 12v power available inside the monitor. Any suggestions?

Yeah, you can definitely do that! You’ll want to make sure to reduce the speaker output a bit before feeding it into your amplifier to avoid clipping at max volume. Also, find an amp with a solid signal-to-noise ratio to get quality sound from your setup. If you know the impedance of your original iMac speakers, using a matching transformer might boost the volume more effectively without needing a whole additional circuit.
