Hey everyone! I recently moved into a new house, but I'm struggling with annoying outside noises dubbed 'living noises' by the council. My place is near a busy street and in a neighborhood with quite a bit of chaos, so sounds from upstairs neighbors, loud yelling, and even crying babies really get to me. I'm considering building a wooden shed in my bedroom, covering it with foam on the outside, lining it with dense hospital foam mattresses, and sleeping inside with earplugs. Do you think this setup would be effective in blocking out those sounds? Has anyone tried something similar? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Honestly, you might not need to go all out with the shed idea. A couple of sheets of Sonopan, which is made from wood fiber and recycled paper, would be more effective and take up less space. If you’re up for it and can access the inside of the walls, you could put soundproofing inside the wall cavities and then put drywall over them. Don’t forget to check the windows, doors, ceiling, and floor too, as they can all let sound in.
Thanks! I read about Sonopan and wasn't sure if just the shed would do. I can get a wooden shed for around $400 plus some foam, but my walls, ceiling, and especially the doors and windows are painfully thin.
