Can I Cut Concrete Column Forms to Make Large Round Pavers?

I'm working on a DIY project to create a semi-permeable seating area with large round pavers arranged in a grid or polka-dot pattern. The challenge is that most pre-made round pavers are too small, usually no larger than 12 inches. So, I'm thinking of repurposing big cardboard concrete column forms, cutting them into discs, and pouring my own concrete to create pavers that are at least 24 inches wide. Do you think this idea could work? Is it a feasible approach?

Yep, this can work! If you're pouring the discs in place, it’s crucial to prep properly. Dig about five inches inside the form, tamp down some gravel, and make sure the form is plumb and leveled with stakes. This will really help during the pour. Just keep in mind that frost can shift them over time, but they'll be sturdier than just pouring flat discs.

Thanks! Do you think larger pavers, like 24" or 36", would hold up better in the weather? I've seen good reviews about dry pour concrete for larger projects.

Absolutely! I've done this before using a circular saw. Just mark your cutting lines clearly and cut them while the form is laid on its side. You can roll it with your foot to make cutting easier, but if you want more precision for thin cuts, a wooden cradle is a good idea to hold it steady. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the tips! I'd appreciate any other advice you have about making the pavers with this method.

It's odd that column form manufacturers don't add guidelines for cutting. It's tough to get a straight cut with the spiral design they have!
