I'm in zone 9a and I just planted my tomato plants a few weeks ago, but now a late freeze is on the way. It's supposed to drop to around 22°F Thursday night, and since it gets colder here than what the weather reports say, I'm worried about losing my two plants. I'm considering digging them up, potting them, and then putting them back in the ground after the freeze passes. Is that a good idea, or will all that moving around affect their growth negatively?

Transplanting your tomatoes could set them back a bit in growth, but honestly, if the other option is to let them freeze in 22°F weather, you might as well try it! You could also dig one up and wrap the other for some added protection. Also, if you put a container of hot water near them, it might help keep things warmer, but I wouldn’t trust it to last the whole night.
