Can I DIY Replacing My HVAC Ducting?

I'm considering replacing the HVAC ducting in my home, specifically using soft ducting. Is this a project that's feasible for a DIY enthusiast? I want to know what to expect and if there are any specific challenges I should be aware of before diving in.

It really depends on what kind of ducting you're dealing with. If you’re swapping out existing flexible ducts for the same type and size, it’s usually doable for someone with decent DIY skills. Just be warned, if you’ve got to work in a cramped attic, it might turn into a tough day. But if you’re looking to replace rigid metal ducts with flex, I would definitely recommend getting a professional. Rigid ducts have different airflow dynamics, and you could mess up your air balance with increased velocity losses.

We’re replacing existing flex duct. I’ve done some DIY projects like drywall and framing, but I’m curious how tough it will be in the attic.
