I had a contractor install a 4-gang light switch, but they didn't put the switches in the order I wanted. Can I switch their positions easily, or will I have to tear up the drywall to do it?

You might be in luck! If the installation was done correctly, there should be enough wire in the box to reorder the switches without too much hassle. Just remember to cut the power first, remove the faceplate, and pull the switches out a bit for better visibility. It's a good idea to label the wires so you know which goes where – taking a picture can be super helpful as a reference! Good luck with it!

While it's definitely feasible to DIY, a 4-gang switch can present some hurdles. By code, there should be at least 6 inches of slack on each wire inside the box. If you're swapping switch 1 with 4, be aware that pulling the wire across could be tricky, especially if it was minimally installed. Make sure to check for any slack behind the wall and consider where the wires enter the box. Generally, just switching positions should work unless you're dealing with tight wiring.
