Can I Extend My Dryer Vent with PVC Underground?

I'm working on leveling out my terrace, but I have a dryer vent that currently sits above ground. I'm considering extending it with PVC to reach the new end of my retaining wall. Is this a good idea, or should I do something different?

If you just point a PVC pipe up, it can act like a rain gauge, which is not ideal. You'd need to add a second elbow to direct it outside, but that extra bend could create too much resistance for your dryer. A safer option would be to install the proper metal vent pipe inside your house and drill a new hole to let it out above the new ground level.

It's not a great idea to run the dryer vent underground with PVC. If you do that, condensation will build up, and lint will clog it pretty quickly. Instead, you should consider running it up along the wall and having it vent above grade. You could also look into installing an assist fan inside to help with airflow if you're concerned about venting issues.
