Can I Fit a Store-Bought Window in My Rough Opening?

I've got a rough opening that's 30 1/2 inches wide and 57 3/4 inches tall. I'm looking at a box store window that measures 30 1/4 by 54 inches. Would it work to use this window? I realize I'll need to use blocking or shimming at the top and bottom, but I'm wondering if it will fit well enough overall.

Honestly, you want to have that window in your hands before making any plans. It’s crucial for getting the right fit and measurements!

If your opening is square and level, and the wood isn't all warped, you should be able to squeeze that window in. Just be prepared to make some adjustments! But remember, if things go sideways, they might have a 'chainsaw' fix at the box store! ?

That gap is pretty tight at just an 1/8 inch on the sides! You can definitely add a 2x4 to raise the sill if needed. Just be sure to check on the return policy before you buy. By the way, what kind of installation are you looking at? Nailing fin or what?
