Can I Install a Subfloor on My Trex Deck for a Sunroom?

Hey everyone! We have a raised deck that's been built with Trex flooring, and we're planning to install a pre-fab sunroom right on top of it. The deck has been inspected for weight load and is in excellent condition. I'm wondering if it's safe to put a subfloor over the Trex using something like OSB, followed by LVP flooring on top of that? Right now, there are gaps between the slats, and I'm worried about bugs and critters getting in. We're located in Southern California, San Diego area, so weather isn't a big concern for us. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Before you start, it’s crucial to check the gap between the Trex boards, as that might influence your choice. Ideally, if the deck is relatively flat, laying down OSB should work, but ensure you seal any edges well to prevent critters from sneaking in. Just keep an eye on ventilation too, as you don’t want moisture to build up under there. Good luck with the sunroom!

Yeah, sealing the edges is a must! I’ve seen too many installs go wrong because of neglecting that part. A good polyurethane sealant should do the trick.

I think going the subfloor route is a smart move, especially if you're worried about pests. Just make sure the base is properly secured and that you're using moisture-resistant materials if any water could be a concern. It sounds like an amazing project, and you’ll love the additional space!

Absolutely! Just make sure to get the right kind of LVP that can handle some exposure to the elements, just in case.
