I'm considering installing a wired doorbell camera directly onto my front door, which is set back in the frame. I already have a battery-powered camera, but I'd rather have a hardwired one to avoid the hassle of recharging. Is this installation feasible, or would it be better to look for alternative solutions?

Attaching a camera directly to the door might be tricky because the door moves, and you risk damaging the wiring as it flexes. Instead, think about placing the camera at a fixed point near the entrance where the wire can settle without being pinched or strained. This way, you still get a wired setup without running into issues with the door's movement.
It's definitely possible but not the easiest workaround. A friend of mine has a similar setup by placing a second camera looking out from inside, which helps catch anything the doorbell misses. You could also consider using solar charging for a battery-operated camera if you're worried about the inconvenience.
You could put a little loop of wire at the hinge as a relief point to prevent damage, but you might end up replacing that section every few years. If you're interested, you could look into 'electric hinges'—they might be a slick solution for your setup! Just keep in mind, managing the wiring will be a bit more complicated.
