Can I Install Plywood Over My Subfloor Myself?

I'm considering whether to hire a professional flooring contractor or if I can manage to lay down 1/2" plywood on my subfloor myself. I have some tools and I'm reasonably handy. Just to give you an idea of my project, I'll be installing tile as the final flooring. Would love some insights on whether this is a DIY job or best left to the pros!

If you're adding the plywood, that's usually not too difficult! Just ensure you’re checking the joists for any structural issues. Sometimes those can be trickier than they appear, and might be better suited for a contractor's help. Just keep in mind that for tiling, having a completely flat surface is crucial for a good finish!

Right, the plywood will be going on top before the tile. I’m prepared to make it as flat as possible!

It really depends on what you're working with! Are you replacing the subfloor or just adding the plywood on top? If the diagonal slat board underneath is solid and secured tight, then you should be good to go. Just make sure to measure and cut accurately to keep everything level, especially since tile requires a flat surface for installation. If you're just adding the plywood and everything else is in decent shape, you can totally do it yourself!

Yeah, it’s attached pretty well, though I might add a few extra screws for good measure. I’m sure I can handle it!
