Can I Just Lay Pavers on the Grass for a Walkway?

Hey folks! I've been thinking about creating a simple walkway from my driveway to my front door since it's a bit of a hassle walking through the grass. I'm not sure if it's a great idea, but I was wondering if I can just lay down some pavers right on top of the grass. I'm not aiming for perfection and I don't need it to be super permanent. Is this a bad idea, or is it something I can manage?

You can certainly lay the pavers down directly, but for a solid result, I’d recommend removing the grass underneath and digging down about 2 inches to add a layer of sand. This will help keep them from settling unevenly over time. If you can, opt for larger pavers since they tend to hold up better and are less prone to shifting around.

If you want your pavers to stay level, you'll need to dig down a few inches first and add some gravel or packed sand underneath. Otherwise, you can just lay them down, but it might not look great for long.

You might also want to throw in some weed barrier fabric to help keep those pesky plants at bay for a while.

You can definitely do it, but keep in mind that the pavers might not last long. They'll start sinking into the ground, and grass will probably grow over them, leading to a messy look.

Fair enough!
