I'm really fed up with my garbage disposal! My family doesn't seem to understand what belongs in there and I keep having to clean it out because they keep sending weird things, like rocks, down the drain. Now I'm considering getting rid of the disposal altogether. I have a dishwasher that connects to it, and I know that a disposal isn't absolutely necessary for it, but it does help with the little food bits that could cause clogs. I'd love to find a middle ground where I can continue using my dishwasher without dealing with the hassle of a garbage disposal. Is there a way to have a disposal only for the dishwasher while keeping my sink plumbing straight?

I totally feel your pain! You shouldn't have to take apart your disposal all the time. Have you thought about getting a Badger-style disposal with a socket on the bottom? You can use a small shop vacuum to clean it out in just a couple of minutes without all the fuss. A regular vacuum might work too, just need a long hose for it to reach inside. It's super quick and might save you a ton of trouble!
Oh man, that sounds rough! It’s like a mini rock collection in your disposal! Dishwashers do fine without disposals, actually. They usually just grind up food bits to prevent clogs. Maybe install a sink strainer—those catch the big stuff before it heads down the drain. You can even find some that are removable, so you can throw away the scraps easily! Just keep reminding family members to use the trash or compost. If you opt to get rid of the disposal, it’s a good idea to consult a plumber about connecting your dishwasher directly to the drain to avoid backwashing issues.
Hey, I’ve been through this too! The ScrapDrain from EarthBio could be a good option for you. Just keep in mind that the dishwasher drains below the system, so getting one with a built-in waste filter could help reduce clogs without needing a disposal. But if you decide to ditch the disposal, make sure the dishwasher still has a way to drain properly.
Why have I never thought of this, thank you!
