Can I Leave My Unused Solar Panels Out in the Sun While I’m Away?

Hey everyone! I've got two series strings of solar panels—one with three 240W panels (totaling 720W) and another with two 325W panels and one 380W panel (totaling 1030W). I'm planning on unplugging them from my inverter (an EcoFlow) while I'm out of town. Is it okay to leave them out facing the sun? I have weatherproof covers for the MC4 connections, but I'm wondering if I should disconnect the series configuration while I'm away. Any advice?

Just a heads up, the panels might be silently judging you for not using that power while you're gone! ? But really, they’ll just end up dissipating any power as heat when they’re not hooked up to anything.

Yeah, no worries! The panels will be just fine out there. They won't generate any issues if they're covered properly. Just let them do their thing!

I’ve left my panels out for months without any problems. They essentially don't do anything if there’s no load for the energy to flow to, which is the case for me a lot of the year. Just be sure to treat the open cables like live wires while they're out in the sunlight!

Thanks for the reassurance! I'll be sure to handle the cables carefully.
