Hey everyone! I was just thinking about whether it's possible or even a good idea to mix an oil finish with dyes for coloring. I know there are stains available, but I'm curious if it's common to add dyes to oil finishes to achieve a certain color. Any thoughts or experiences?

Playing around with that idea sounds fun! Just a heads up: the oil can dilute the dye, so don’t expect to see instant results. It might build up color more gradually, giving you a chance to achieve a more subtle and controlled effect. Definitely worth a try!
Yes, you can definitely mix dyes with oil finishes! Just keep in mind that there are two main types of colors: dyes and pigments. Dyes dissolve completely, while pigments won't. If you're aiming for a specific shade, mixing dye into your oil can give some nice results. It's worth experimenting with!
It's totally feasible! In fact, we've done custom colors using Osmo, and it turned out great. Now we even collaborate with Rubio, who custom-mixes colors for us. Just be careful with water-based dyes—they might not mix well with oils, so stick to oil-based ones for the best outcome!

Good point! I love the idea of going for a more controlled look. Can't wait to experiment with different ratios!
