Can I Mop My Painted Subfloor? Tips for Temporary Flooring Solutions

Asked By FixerUpperFan123 On

As new homeowners, we've taken on a fixer-upper and have exposed the subfloor, which is plywood, in one room after pulling up some ugly flooring. We've painted part of it with an oil-based Zinsser primer and are planning to cover it with a large area rug for the time being. My main concern is how to maintain the area that isn't covered by the rug. Is there a safe way to mop this painted surface, or should I stick to spot cleaning?

It's best to avoid mopping since even tiny pinholes in the paint can trap moisture. If you get water in those holes, it can be tough to dry out. Spot cleaning sounds like your safest bet! If you do decide to mop, ensure everything is sealed first.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with spot cleaning after hearing that!
