Can I Move a Murphy Bed Through a Cramped Space?

I'm trying to move a murphy bed from one room to another where there's currently a crib. The situation is tricky because the murphy bed is quite bulky and I don't think it can just slide out easily. I'm considering cutting a hole in the closet and maneuvering it through there, but I'm worried about the width since the bed is 17 inches wide (18.5 inches with the lip) and the studs are likely 16 inches apart. The bed is also super heavy and put together with wood glue and screws, and I lost the assembly plans, which adds to the challenge. Any advice on how to do this without making a huge mess?

Have you checked if there are any footers on those wall studs? If you're planning to cut into them, that's a big decision. It might be worth taking a closer look at the measurements to see if it can slide out after all. A heat gun can help loosen the glue when you're removing screws, so that's a good tip!

Yeah, footers are likely in there. Just be cautious and check for any electrical lines before cutting! That heat gun is a game-changer!

Why not just move the crib instead? It might be easier to disassemble the murphy bed and set it up in the other room. Plus, if the crib is going out anyway, you've got an easier transition!

That's what we ended up doing. It made the whole process a lot less complicated!

Totally agree! Just swap everything around to make it simpler.

Could you share a diagram of the whole space along with the measurements? That would really help in figuring out the best way to make this move happen!
