Can I Move My Ceiling Fan and Replace It with a Light Fixture?

I'm considering moving my existing ceiling fan about 2 feet to align it better with the light switch it connects to. After that, I want to replace the fan with a light fixture to make it centered over my dining room table. I'm okay with covering the existing hole and doing the mudding and painting once it's all moved. Is this feasible?

It's definitely possible, especially if you have an attic above. You'll need to shift the current box and possibly get a new one. After moving it, make sure to patch up the ceiling nicely. If you're unsure about the wiring, it’s safer to let a pro handle that part. In some cases, you might get lucky and just shift the box without needing much rewiring since you’ll be close to the switch!

You can definitely do this! If you're planning to handle it yourself, it's a good idea to check what's above the ceiling. If it's an attic with decent access, it should be a straightforward job. You'd need to remove the fan and box, reposition everything, rewire if necessary, and then patch the ceiling afterward. If you're not comfortable with the wiring part, hiring an electrician might be a good move, since they can do it quickly and safely. Good luck with it!

If you have the attic access, though tight, you might manage it fine. Just take your time.
